We know that with great power comes great responsibility.
The greater the responsibility, the greater will be the
accountability.
So for those who are appointed to positions of authority and
power, they need to be aware of the responsibility and the accountability to
the people they are called to serve.
In the 1st reading, the Word of the Lord was
addressed to the shepherds of Israel.
The shepherds of Israel are understood as the rulers of the
country as well as the religious leaders of that time.
In today’s context, it is often interpreted as the clergy
and priests of the Church.
But in the broader sense, anyone who has an authority over
others is also called to be responsible with that authority and to be able to
account for it.
At the same time, those who are under authority are also
called to comply and to obey the instructions given by those who have authority
over them.
But whether in authority or under authority, let us be aware
that our service and accountability is to God.
And God will reward and bless the faithful servant who acts rightly and justly.
