Galatians 1:6-12 / Luke 10:25-37
To differentiate between the truth and falsehood may seem to be simple and easy.
But in reality it is not that simple and easy.
Because the truth can be rather difficult to accept.
And falsehood can be attractive and convenient when looking at quick gains and shortcuts.
In the first reading, St. Paul was astonished at how quickly the Galatians had turned away from the original Good News that was preached to them.
Some troublemakers had changed the teaching of the Good News to suit their own motives and interests.
They seek to get others to follow them by offering an attractive but hollow message.
But the truth is the truth even if no one wants to believe it.
And a lie is a lie even if everyone believes it.
In the gospel, Jesus told a parable that made the lawyer rethink about his understanding of who his neighbour is.
But the truth is that compassion is a basic expression of humanness.
Whoever has love, compassion and kindness is a true neighbour.
May we live out that fundamental truth in our lives.
