1 Cor 2:10-16 / Luke 4:31-37
Whenever something happens in the world, there will be numerous opinions and comments coming forth.
From wars to disasters, from scientific developments to technological advances, from social trends to sports, there will be many people saying many things.
So, experts and academicians, politicians and ordinary persons, all will have something to say about whatever is happening.
There is whole array of reasoning and philosophies, such that we are often left wondering what is right and true.
In the first reading, St. Paul says that we have received the Spirit that comes from God to teach us to understand the gifts that He has given us.
We have become spiritual persons who are able to judge what is good, what is right and what is true.
In the gospel, Jesus taught in the synagogue and He made a deep impression because He spoke with authority.
And right there in the synagogue, there was a man who was possessed by a devil and it caused a commotion because it knew who Jesus is.
But Jesus silenced it and cast it out of the man.
We have heard many voices from the world, and as we come to Church we may even echo those worldly and unspiritual voices.
Let us be aware of the worldly and unspiritual voices of resentment, pessimism, discouragement that are coming out from us.
Let us ask Jesus to silence those voices and cast them out of us.
Then we can speak the truth with love, and do what is right and just.
