Ezekiel 18:1-10, 13, 30-32 / Matthew 19:13-15
It has always been said that children are our future. Of course, that is true.
The children and the youth that we see now will eventually become the generation of the forefront in the future.
But if the children are our future, that does not mean that we put them aside and only let them out in the future.
If the children are our future, now is the time to teach and instruct them on the values and principles of life.
Now is the time to form them in the faith and to teach them to love God and to love neighbour.
In the first reading, there is this proverb in the land of Israel: The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.
That proverb means that the father sinned and so the children suffer the consequences.
But the Lord God overturned this by saying that each one will have to suffer the consequences of their own sin.
That also tells us that if we eat sour grapes, our teeth will be set on edge. We will have to bear the consequences of our own sins.
But if we feed our children with sour grapes, and their teeth are set on edge, then we will be responsible for that sin.
Since the children and the youth are the future, let us bring them to Jesus and feed them with the Word of God.
Let them learn about the Kingdom of God, and in the future they will show us the Kingdom of God.
